Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
What architecture does MeetRoll use?
MeetRoll is built as a Google Meet Add-on that runs inside the Meet side panel. It uses the Google Meet Add-ons SDK along with the official Google Meet REST API to read live meeting data and participant sessions. This is a secure, supported integration rather than browser DOM scraping.
Why do I see “Open this inside Google Meet” when opening the URL directly in my browser?
The add-on depends on the active Google Meet session context provided only when it runs inside the Meet app. Opening the app URL directly in a browser does not provide a live call session, so no meeting data is available to track.
Where are my attendance sheets saved?
Your spreadsheet is created and updated directly in your personal Google Drive. MeetRoll reuses the same file for the same meeting and updates it in place instead of creating duplicate copies. You can open the generated file from the notification link or find the file by its meeting-based name in Drive.
How are participant times calculated?
MeetRoll reads each participant’s join and leave intervals from the official Meet APIs and merges repeated sessions for the same person. The app then calculates the first join time, last exit time, and total attended duration without double-counting overlapping or repeated sessions.
How do multiple sessions on the same link work?
If you use the same recurring Meet link for multiple classes, MeetRoll continues the same spreadsheet and creates a separate sheet for each session using the timestamped session name. This keeps attendance history organized without splitting records across multiple files.
Can I disable automatic saving?
Yes. The add-on includes an Auto-save toggle in the side panel. When enabled, it saves the workbook to Drive every 3 minutes. If you switch it off, you can still use Export Excel manually when needed.
Is my meeting or participant data stored on external servers?
No. The live tracking session runs in the Google Meet add-on environment and reads data from the official Meet APIs. Attendance data is stored in your personal Google Drive account only. No participant names, emails, or logs are sent to external databases owned by MeetRoll.
How do I revoke permissions or uninstall?
You can revoke MeetRoll’s access at any time by visiting myaccount.google.com/permissions in your Google Account and removing the add-on’s access.
